How do I create an ad-hoc network on Windows XP?
You can create a Wi-Fi network between two or more devices without using a Wi-Fi router. These networks are often referred to as ad-hoc networks. All you need is a computer with Wi-Fi running Windows XP.
- Click on Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
- Double click on Wireless Network Connection.
- Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click "Properties".
- In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Wireless Networks tab.
- On the Wireless Networks tab, under Preferred networks, click "Add".
- In the Wireless network properties dialog box, on the Association tab, type the name of your ad-hoc network (SSID).
If you want to secure your network, enter a 13 character password for WEP Data encryption. - Clear the "The key is provided for me automatically" check box and select the "This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network" check box.
- Click "OK" to save your changes.
- Now your iOS devices can join the network you've created by selecting it in the Wi-Fi section of the device settings
- After connecting your iOS device with the ad-hoc network give your computer some time to assign a valid internet address to your iOS device. This may take a few seconds.
