I use a Mac. I'm bored by all the subfolders PhotoSync creates. What can I do?

PhotoSync Companion creates the subfolders (device name and album name) in your target directory for a security reason: All photos in the iOS photo library will be named randomly with IMG_XXXX where XXXX are numbers from 0 to 9 so it can easily happen that in two different albums your have different photos with the exact same name. The same can happen if you own multiple iOS devices like an iPhone and an iPad.

If you still want to have all your photos in one folder, there is an easy trick in Mac OSX to do this: Create a smart folder. The following screenshots show you how to create a PhotoSync smart folder for a target directory 'PhotoSync' in a users 'Pictures' directory. The user has three different iOS devices and therefore photos with duplicate names:

  1. open finder and select your PhotoSync target directory
    Step 1
  2. enter something into your search field, e.g. jpg, this enables the smart folder editor
    Step 2
  3. click on the plus sign to add a new condition: 'Kind' is 'Image' 'All', this takes all images in the folder and it's subfolders
    Step 3
  4. click on 'Save' to save your smart folder. Name it according to your needs and don't forget to check the 'Add To Sidbar' checkbox. Click save to save the folder
    Step 4
  5. the folder should now show up in the sidebar. We have to remove the search term that we entered initiailly since we want to have ALL images. The search term was just a trick to use our desired target folder as the 'root' folder of our search folder. So please right click on the smart folder and choose 'Show search criteria' to redisplay the smart folder options
    Step 5
  6. remove the 'Items matching text' line by clicking on the minus sign next to the line
    Step 6
  7. click save to store the folder
    Step 7
  8. as you can see, the folder contains all the photos from the PhotoSync root folder and the subfolders. images with duplicate names are shown too (see: IMG_0125.jpg)
    Step 8
